Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb / Friendship / 1:28 PM - Wednesday August 06, 2008
A Creative (Female, Who Cares?) asked:

How many of us have lap pets, (kitties), dogs, that if sound asleep on us we will not get up to get something we want in order not to disturb them? In my case, I just love the closeness and contentment they show.

Update: August 06, 2008.
Yep....we all treat our furry family creatures with TLC!

OH YEAH !!!!!!!! MOST DEFF.

We had a big male “mouser” many years, who would NOT sit in our laps......JUST WOULD NOT !!!!

He was a stray we took in so, we don't know if he was abused as a kitten and was not eager for that kind of love and attention.

So when Mittens went to the Great Kitty Heaven in the Sky.....we decided, if we ever got more kittens, we would expose them to lots of human touch and have them bond to us being held and loved. AND WHEN THE DAY CAME TO GET MORE KITS, THATS EXACTLY WHAT WE DID.

We purchased a BROTHER AND SISTER PAIR from the same litter and broke them in being held alot.

Now THEY come to us and want to be held !!!!!!! Its sooo comforting to have them cuddle and settle down in your lap. They show such love and trust and confidence in our holding them safely and not hurting them. I just love the contentment and the calmness they can impart when you are feeling so blitzed and run over by the busy world.

Just don’t know what I would do without Rayna and Ozzie !!!!!!!!!

But, I do which they would stay off the computer keyboard when I am trying to type. Or out of my lap when I am trying to type. Or off my shoulders when I am trying to type. Or stop playing with the mouse when I am trying to cut and paste. Or off the table in front of the screen, chasing the cursor when I am…………….well……….I guess you get the picture………..I still love em though.

There have been times when I would be lying down and one of my feathered friends would be resting on my chest and I would go to sleep with it there. One day a dove woke me by pulling on a hair on my chest. When I opened my eyes he had hold of one hair
and was leaning back like a robin pulling a worm out of the ground!

I have my little kitten Pringles, who is a holy terror when he's awake, but the sweetest, purringest little sweetheart there is when he's sleeping. So, I try to lengthen those sleeping times at every opportunity. LOL!

Both of my yorkies are lap dogs. My husband says I have them spoiled rotten, but that's why I got them. If they are sleeping on me, I don't get up.

I do that...lol
Or if I do really have to get up, I apologize for disturbing my cat, as if he knows what I'm saying.

I can be such a dork about pets. ;)

You sound like me. If my cat is on my lap, I won't bother her unless I have to go to the bathroom really bad. Then I will pick her up and move her to the couch so I can go. I figure that even though cats don't sleep that soundly, I don't want to bother her.

Oh you have me pegged. I'm definately like that. I will pick my cat up in the same curled up position she's in and put her down where I was sitting. She generally rearranges herself and goes back to sleep with a smile on her face!

It would depend on what I needed to do. My cats would go back to sleep anywhere I placed them. ;p
If a cat feel asleep in my Auntie
s favorite chair, she would sit somewhere else! She didn't have the heart to move them. lol

I do!
OHHHHHH! I wish y'all could see him...he is the CUTEST thing you've ever seen!
We have a 5 lb Yorkie, so even though he is almost 4 years old he appears to be a puppy because of his small size.
And when he growls it sounds "babyish". lol!
Many times "Oliver" will be snuggled in one of the kids' lap when I'll say, "I need you to do such and so" and they will reply, "I can't...Oliver is asleep".

That used to be the case with my English Springer Spaniel. He wasn't even a lap dog either, he just thought he was mine, and could lay on me whenever he wanted. I didn't mind as long as the boney parts didn't jab me. Yes, I can say that I did like the closeness. There were times that it became difficult, like when I had to go to the bathroom and he was pressing on my bladder. He weighed in at about 75 pounds at that time. My big baby. I sure do miss him. But when the ex went, he went. Oh well.

Now I have my s/o who lays on me, and serves pretty much the same purpose. The only difference is, I don't have to give him a bath. At least not yet.

Later gf,
Thundergrl

I don't right now, but when I was growing up, I had a cat who would cuddle with me like that. He'd fall asleep in my lap while I was watching TV or doing homework, and I just could not bring myself to dislodge him. At night, he'd jump up on my bed and curl up where my waist bows in, and I'd have to fall asleep around him. In the morning, he'd be up on my pillow, and once he figured out I was waking up, he'd pat my cheek with his paw to say "HEY! Get up and feed me!" LOL! It always worked... :) xoxo Jenny

You're right, gail....our pets give us their undivided attention and unconditional love! When I pick up a newspaper or listen on the news about how some people abuse their pets, it just sickens me because they put their full trust in us to take good care of them. They don't deserve to be treated with nothing less than with love and respect! :)

I have two cats that take turns on my lap and I have a lap dog. of course it is a bull mastiff and it weighs 180 lbs and you can't help but move. I made it a big baby when it was a pup and now I just don't want to break it. I call it Carpenter because when it was young she did odd jobs around the house lol
