A Thinker (Female, 36-45, Who Cares?) asked:

Do You Believe In God?

Update: August 08, 2008.
Update: I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and good wishes for my soon to be ex husband. I found out that he is alive and I hope he chooses to get help. I was relieved to hear that his injuries where caused my punching out all the windows and not that he actually attempted suicide. Thanks again.............

Update: August 08, 2008.
I first want to thank everyone who answered this question. And some of you answered it with such honesty and conviction I appreciate it. Ironically, since I have asked this question, my faith right now is being tested and for those of you who believe in God or a Higher Power of sorts I ask that you please say a prayer for my 4 year old son's father who tried to tried to die yesterday by police suicide. I am over two hundred miles away and can not get any details from police or the ER, but I do know he barracaded himself in our home and took a sledge hammer and completely destroyed it. I also know from the police that he begged them to shot him. I am still awaiting the details and only know he was taken to a hospital and no one even though I am still his wife will tell me what is going on. One of my neighbors went to look around for me and said there was blood everywhere in the bedroom. So please say a prayer that he gets the help he needs to someday be a better father.

This is a great big 'ol question, and I have to say that perhaps, "yes" I do believe in....something.

"God", by the capital G definition however...I just don't think that's what it is I beleive in.

I believe it's there, SOMEthing is there, but it's no where near as neat, tidy and tied with a bow as "God".

I don't know if there is a god. I prefer not to believe in anything because of all the evil in the world.

So until I KNOW differently, I have no idea--and belief itself is something knowledge precludes anyway. Perhaps I can't manage something as unstable as belief. Perhaps I don't know why I should.

I believe that it's possible that a divine spirit is a part of this universe. But it's only a possibility. I don't trust believers or anti-believers(the ones denying his existence altogether, not simply the agnostics) because...we still have so many mysteries to solve on Earth. Scientists are still scratching the surface on many different fields of study. How can people who still look upon Earth with mystery and confusion have traveled to the edge of the universe to find/not find God there? "I can't tell you how to cure cancer, but boy howdy, how sure am I that God doesn't exist..." Pfff.

If it does exist, I believe that the Divine doesn't really want us to constantly worry about its existence or following any "rules" of theirs. If it did, we all would be offed pretty quick. I think it would just want us to live and experience life. If it created us, it's a part of us, so we're all a part of the Divine. Our lives would simply be the Divine force fulfilling the whole of itself. If not...we're still all a part of this life, there's still something binding us together, God or no.

No, I believe that it takes the most gullible person to believe in god. Also takes somebody who never ever wants to take responsibility for situations in their lives. They give it all to god. No, you got yourself into credit card debt, you figure out how to pay the bill. You cant tell your bill collectors that you "gave it to god". I also have a brain, that makes it harder for me to believe the bible. It is nothing more than an astrological misinterpretation. I know about Horus and Set, therefore rendering the whole story of Jesus as ridiculous. Its the worlds biggest Zeitgeist.

The word "believe" and the word "faith" are synonyms in the English language. The King James Translation gives the Greek word "pistis" (which is the original language of the New Testament Scriptures) a transation as the following: assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity.

With this in mind, a person can only have true faith in God if God Himself awakens the dead spirit within the person. It is not by an act of man which gives this true faith, but an act of God. People know there is "a God", but people can not know God except He be revealed to them. The Word of God declares that no man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son which is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

The Scriptures declare that even the devils believe and tremble. The Scriptures even declare that when Jesus Christ walked the earth as the Word which became flesh, during His "earthly ministry", that the devils which He would cast out of people, mentioned Him being the Son of God. So it is not merely knowing there is a God, or even knowing that Jesus Christ came, but Salvation is a work of God. He must know you, and call you, and impute His own righteousness to your account. To be made righteous in God's sight requires more than a person's own good works or deeds. This righteousness of God is given to the household of faith, who were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. If you have no knowledge of your own salvation, I urge you to humbly cry out to God for mercy. It may be that God will save you too. Judgement day is comming, and all who are unsaved will perish.

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Okay here we go with the old worldly question. My answer is no. Why, God is the modern version of The Mythical gods and goddess from the Ancient Greeks. And then the different gods of the pagans. The Ancient Egyptians with their Pharaohs. It is a word that has been translated to reflect the popular belief of the unknown. Also religion was created to maintain the human race to say that they are not Eliete, maintain power. Even though we do consider ourselves on top of the food chain. LOL. I will say this I was raised religiously. AS I grown up I questioned and realized that we people should believe within the power with the human race. Not separate ourselves and say what is better "GOD", AllAH, JOAH( I Think it is spelled that way). Instead I believe in the power of the human race and the living on this planet. We are all one. We need balance with Good and Evil. Night and Day. So Let's work on all the stories that were told and change our ways. Oh I forgot we are humans we make mistakes and we forget and that is why we recycle over and over again on this world old question. So Let's believe in ourselves to change for humankind not for each other. That is the message. And we ignore it. Because we worry who is in the stories, scriptures, etc. We don't see the lesson that is told to us. You have to make the choice and take responsibility to change and all actions we do upon others and ourselves. So again is there a God no not for me. But a universal power, absolutely. The power within ourselves.
