getting pregnant while on the pill??

I'm on the pill currently but i've known/heard of alot of women getting pregnant when they were on it. Is this common? My mom got pregnant with me when she was on the pill so i've always wondered. It's supposed to be 99% effective so yeah lol. Any stories or opinions/responses would be greatly appreciated!!

I was on the pill and got pregnant...twice. The only thing that happened was that I missed taking it by 1 hour. And the second time, I couldn't even tell you what happened. The nurse told me it might be increasingly ineffective to my body. Just be careful - if you miss that pill by minutes, you can get pregnant. May I suggest the Nuvaring? Many people have different views of it...but I never have to worry about it failing, and I can't feel anything! Be cautious!

Yes, my daughter (age 23) is expecting a child in November and she said she had been on the pill.

99% effectiveness is under "laboratory" conditions. Not real life where, people are human and take it with foods/drinks they shouldn't. At diff times in the day, even occasionally forgetting a day. Works out to be about 5-6% pregancy rate per year on the pill in the US.

It is only that effective if you take it religiously and take it the same time every day. If you forget it one day or alternate the time of day you take it you have lost the effectiveness throughout the whole month. Also if you take antibiotics with it the birth control is negated for the whole month.

no, it is very UNCOMMON for that to happen. if you take it regular, at the same time every day, religiously, there is only a .01%. if you goof off and just take it whenever you feel like it, skipping days at a time, then your chance is more like 13%

lol... well my sister-in-law was on the pill for years, got married, still on the pill, and bam... she was hit with twins! They are wondeful little boys now, but she had them snip her tubes.

A fiends husband had surgery (visectimy *yeah.. don't know how to spell it!) and she became pegnant with triplets!

So i guess I have met some of the 1% chancers out there! lol...

I have several friends that got pregnant while on the pill, but they were also taking antibiotics and apparently they make the pill ineffective. Read the insert that all meds come with to understand how to use it properly.

Taken perfectly, it's still 99.7% effective. So, for every 1,000 women who use it perfectly, 3 will still get knocked up. I was on the patch, I'd been on the patch for several months, hadn't taken any antibiotics or any other medication whatsoever, and I am now expecting my first (and only) child in November. It happens, so always be prepared for that contingency.

if you get pregnant while on the pill then you aren't using it properly.
Most likely if a girl gets pregnant on the pill it is because:
1) she hasn't been taking it at the same time everyday

or

2) she missed a pill!

The thing with the pill is you have to take it at the same time everyday and if you take antibiotics then it screws everything up for a month. You're better off getting the shot or an IUD so you don't have to worry about forgetting it.

Taken properly, it's 99.96% effective. Meaning one in 2200 women get pregnant. Antibiotics can interfere though, so that would count as not taking it properly.

One girl i know was taking antibiotics while taking the pill and got pregnant, another missed one night w/out the pill and welcomed a baby girl 9 mos. later, soooo there is that chance.

You can be taking birth control correctly and still have it fail. For example, my mom got pregnant twice on the pill, my sister got pregnant on the pill, and I got pregnant on the pill once and on Depo. We were all on different types of pills (I was actually on Depo, so not even the pill). Clearly for us, for whatever reason, hormonal birth control is not as effective as it is supposed to be.

I got pregnant on the pill, never missed a day and always took it at the same time every single day, wasn't on antibiotics either, just a fluke but a much loved fluke.

Nothing and I mean nothing short of crossing your legs and the guy keeping his zipper shut is 100% effective. I've know women also who got pregnant even on the pill.
I decided to get a IUD, it's suppose to be 98% effective, my son will turn 22 in Sept. Nothing is 100% effective.
