how do they do C-Sections?For C-Sections baby delivery, does doctor cut up and down vertical or does doctor cut horizontal? - Asked by jacobmilo, A Player, Male, 18-21 |

It depends. The usual cut is called a bikini cut and it's straight across. However as was my case, if you have a previous incision from another surgery, they don't cut across scar tissue so they cut straight down from directly under the belly button!!! :)

Almost always horizontally, using what's referred to as a "bikini cut".

Vertical, I'm guessing there might be some medical reason a mother would need a horizontal cut but that would be EXTREMELY rare especially since vertical is the most practical means to get the baby with out too much damage to the mom.

Yourdad's got that backwards; usually it's the horizontal bikini cut since that allows a woman to possibly get pregnant again. Cutting vertically can cause tears as she grows out if she conceives again. Verticals are usually only in emergencies when they have to get the baby out immediately, otherwise it's the preferred bikini cut. And for subsequent C-sections if required, they cut around the previous one and stitch the two sides together like a football. That all came straight from my friend who works as a nurse in labor and delivery.

Bikini if at all possible. My first baby was c-section. She was a stubborn thing who wanted to come out butt first. You can hardly see a scar at all and then only if you're really looking for it. A bikini cut also makes it more likely you'll be able to have a natural birth later... which I also did. My son was very cooperative.
