Do You Have a Good Relationship With Your Siblings?

Its seems that a lot of people I know have had some sort of falling out with a sibling, who has either vanished from their family,or haven't spoken to them in years.
I don't understand how some families can go for years, with speaking to them, or knowing where they are.

Is this a common occurrence..or am I just fortunate that I have such a close-knit family? :)

My sisters and brothers mean the world to me..
I can't see not ever having them in my life.

I'm the oldest of 6, and I feel fortunate that I have a good relationship with all of my brothers and sisters. Of course, there have been rough patches over the years, but nothing we couldn't work out. And, I think as time goes by, everyone seems to realize that time is short, and we are all happy to still be here. And, that this time is meant to be enjoyed!

I do have a good relationship with my siblings. I know what you mean by a lot of people don't. I know many families that have constant stalemates and silence grudges going on and it's usually something stupid in which one person didn't get to control the other in some matter.

Brothers stop talking to Sisters over some guy the Sister dates that the Brother doesn't like. Fathers stop talking to kids over some Money issue or Career decision that's different than what they wanted for them. Sisters stop talking to Sisters over how kids are being raised and all kinds of other nonsense. Yet it always leads back to intolerance, control issues or feelings of inferiority. Sometimes Parents play favorites and pit the siblings against each other for life. It's awful ridiculous. All of it...

My siblings don't always make the decisions I'd make and likewise, but it's their lives and none of my business. My job is to love them, be friends with them, focus on the areas we do connect and that's it.

I love my siblins but there's a large age gap (they're from my mother's second marriage while I'm from the first) and so we aren't as close as I would like to be.

I shouldn't speak to my older sister, but I do...she's still blood. Back in high school she sleep with my boyfriend. Then she kissed my husband when I was pregnant with our oldest son.

Yes...she's blood, but I'm still angry with her...blood isn't suppose to do that. I keep her & her daughters (totally other story) at a good arms length away!!!!!

I must admit I have 1 selfish, bitchy sister that none of us get along

I didn't speak to anyone for a few years but we talk now. We're not "close-knit" but that's just the way it is.

I have 3 younger brothers but they seem closer to each other than to me, since I'm the only girl. We just see each other on holidays and live in the same state. I always think if I had a sister it would be different and much better. I love my brothers but I don't have much in common with them.

Of my five sisters I am only close with one of them, and we aren't that close, either.

I am close to one of my two brothers.

I am jealous of your tight relationship!

I have three older siblings and only one of them I have had problems with. It's not a big deal anymore, but when we both lived at home the relationship was very strained.

I never had an issue with him, but he is very jealous of me and the attention I get from my parents. So he wasn't always very nice to me.

I wished that he would have gotten over his jealousy because other than that I believe we would have gotten along just fine. The sad thing is we were inseparable as kids. I often wonder how did it all change.

Your very fortunate to have such a close-knit family. :)

You are very fortunate indeed. I have a sibling who cut off communication with me 25 years ago, not exactly sure why. I hear from him maybe 2-3 times per year by phone, and never see him. It's tough feeling like you don't have close family. Count your blessings!

Be blessed that you have this relationship with them. I think it starts with the way your parents raise you. I know more people in my situation that dont have a relationship than ones that are compatible. My ex-wife has a close family but it also got in the way of our happiness, yes I did blame her but relaized I didnt have anything with mine so what makes it better to try and get into theirs.
My mom died when I was 13 years old and my father didnt know how to control the rest of us my older sister got married, my older brother went into the service my next eldest sister was deaf who graduated with 5th grade books and then there was me and my baby sister. My dad found a women to cry on which left my baby sister and I to fend for ourselves. I started having teachers who teased me about my mothers death and got me so mad I fought them in school and was getting kicked out left and right which I ended up quitting school and a friend and I hitched-hiked out to Oklahoma from Upstate New York, thats something in my life I would never change either, I learned a lot and learned people. I could go on forever if you had the time and patience to listen,,,,,,,,,,,lol sorry about dragging it out. matt

Long story very short,,, I have not spoken to my siblings in over 15 yrs. Nor my mother in over 12 yrs. Unfortunately there are some broken bonds that can never be repaired.
