If you are asking about the asteroid Toutatis which is 3.5 miles long and passes it's closes on Dec. 12, 2012, the Earth will not end. Toutatis passes about 4.3 million miles from earth. To get a perspective, the Moon is 238,900 miles from Earth. So Toutatis will pass 18 times the distance of the Moon and Earth. That's not very close.

We have heard that the Mayan calendar ends on Winter Solstice of 2012. It may be the end of the Mayan calendar, but it is not the end of the world, just a turning point, like the solstice itself (the sunlight begins to return and the days begin to get longer every winter solstice). Only this date (12-21-12) is a bit more significant, i.e. the end of an era and the start of a new era. But just like any new years day, it will be a normal day. Only as special as you choose to make it.

The sun will rise, people will go Christmas shopping, taking care of necessary things, eating, drinking, etc. Another day on the calendar. The sun will set, people will go to bed and sleep. Babies will be born on that day and some people will leave this earth. Remember 2000?

Yes, the Sun will probably rise and set that day as usual. Do I believe in the Mayan calendar where it says the world will end that day? If things keep going like they are, life as we know it will end...but the world? I can't say...it will probably proceed as usual. Just out of curiosity, how are you "retired" at your age????
