Does anybody besides me feel a little down around the holidays?

I used to love Thanksgiving, but now find it a bit depressing. Most of the older members of my family have passed on, and their children (my cousins, nieces and nephews) don't think of inviting me to join them, even though they know I am usually home alone that day unless a friend invites me to their home. I also have been dreading Christmas because everyone expects a gift and I just don't have the money. Plus it has become so commercial and not about the birth of Christ at all. Anyone else going through something similar?

You are not alone. My favorite grandmother passed away a week before my birthday and we actually buried her on my birthday. I miss her so much. The holidays are not going to be the same without her. During this time...everyone needs to be grateful for what they have and count their blessings. It is called THANKSgiving, not "LET ME THINK ABOUT WHAT I DONT HAVEgiving".

yes...i always get down around this time of year. And like clock work, the feeling has already begun. Im an unemployed teacher, living at home with my mother and have already started the sleepless nights filled with worry about my life and where it is at (or lack there of). I know it's been like this for a while but with the holidays nearing, it just feels more overwhelming (i don't really know why). I guess we just have to take one day at a time...until the holidays pass...good luck :o)

It does get you down, but just crash the party with fresh baked goods for each and they will understand, don't be alone.

Sadly holiday time can be a stressful time for people. It shouldn't be. It shouuld be lots of fun with laughter and lots of smiles and fond memories of times gone by.

Every situation is what you choose it to be. You can either sit around and mope all day or you can take your friends up on their offers and have a good time. I agree it's depressing, but it doesn't have to be. As far as people expecting gifts you can do things for really cheap. Make them something or simply say I will be there but I am unable to afford gifts for everyone. The holidays can be enjoyable, but you may have to make it that way for YOU. Happy Holidays!!

I also feel louzy about the holidays. Same thing, sad because our loved ones have passed away. But you still have the younger generation. How about starting a small tradition with them? Maybe a family invite separate from the holidays at your home? It is less pressure for them and you and maybe it will follow through into the holidays?
