It seems to me that people who believe in GOD..and have a religious view point......

are better able to accept the world as it is...and work to improve it...than those who have no GOD...and are despondent at the difficulty in dealing with every day disappointments.

Do you think that only having secular solutions leads to a feeling of failure.....while those who have a GOD to turn to...and placing their faith in HIM.......can deal with life better ???

How is it that some people think the world has been getting worse?

While it must be said that most of the people with this point of view come from a religious background, there are also others who share this pessimistic outlook.

I don't see how that opinion can be formed rationally. The world seems to consistently become more evolved and tolerant. A few hundred years ago people were burned as witches and murdered for their religious beliefs...in Western societies no less. And even in recent history, just look at how the rights of women, minorities, and gays have changed in the last century.

Examining the facts only, and taking out of consideration the ravings of some televangelist trying to scare people into buying their books and voting for their candidates, I don't see how it's possible to think that way.

Do you think the world is a better or worse place than it was?

The Ft. Hood shooter should get life in prison.

I do not feel that Nidal Hasan should get the death penalty BECAUSE it would not be fair. When an American kills a Arab, he gets away with it and at the most gets life in prison. Take the soldier who raped and murdered a 14-year-old Iraqi girl, her little sister and parents. He got life in prison. A Blackwater guard who along with 4 other Blackwater guards killed 17 unarmed Iraqi civilians will have the charges against him dropped after US prosecutors asked for that. An Arab life is worth just as much as an American so let's treat them that way is all I'm saying.

Update: November 20, 2009.
Thank you myndseye! All other responders should read her response to understand what's really going on inn the justice system of this country. All of you know and maybe just don't give a damn that minority members get harsher punishments than white Americans; this is WRONG. No way to argue against that unless you're a prejudiced person.

Update: November 20, 2009.
If he deserves the death penalty than so do the white men who murdered all those innocent Middle Easterners. I can't believe anyone would argue against this! If you believe that American lives are more precious than other nationals' lives, you should be ashamed of yourself.

Update: November 20, 2009.
People, let's get real. You know damn well that an American can murder a minority group or foreigner and get a light punishment. This is far less likely to happen if the tables are turned and it's an American that's killed. I don't think that's right! How can anyone? A life is a life!

Update: November 20, 2009.
I meant minority group member.

Update: November 20, 2009.
I'm sure istillhatescreennames thinks Americans are superior to Arabs and that it's not such a big deal if an Iraqi or Afghani is murdered. Something is seriously wrong with that man.

Wire Fraud? That's All They Got?

Washington (CNN) -- A former State Department employee and his wife, accused of illegally aiding the government of Cuba for nearly 30 years, pleaded guilty Friday to federal charges.

Walter Kendall Myers, 72, pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to commit espionage and two counts of wire fraud. He agreed to forfeit $1.7 million related to the two counts of wire fraud and to serve a life prison sentence.

His wife, Gwendolyn Steingraber Myers, 71, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to gather and transmit national defense information. She agreed to serve a sentence of between 6 and 7½ years in prison.

The couple, who appeared in U.S. District Court on Friday, were captured June 4 after an FBI agent posing as a Cuban intelligence officer managed to coax them into offering information on U.S. government personnel, authorities said.

In a diary quoted in the federal affidavit released in June, Myers expressed his opinions on the flaws of the United States and the appeal of Cuba. "The abuses of our system, the lack of decent medical system, the oil companies and their undisguised indifference to public needs, the complacency about the poor, the utter inability of those who are oppressed to recognize their own condition ...," he wrote of the United States.

"Have the Cubans given up their personal freedom to get material security? Nothing I have seen yet suggests that," he wrote. "I can see nothing of value that has been lost by the revolution. The revolution has released enormous potential and liberated the Cuban spirit."

The indictment said Kendall Myers, known to Cuban intelligence as Agent 202, and Gwendolyn Myers, known as Agent 123 and Agent E-634, engaged in activities "which spanned nearly three decades."

Conviction on the wire fraud charge would carry a sentence of up to 20 years, illegally acting as an agent of a foreign government would carry a sentence of up to 10 years, and the conspiracy charge would carry a sentence of up to five years.

+++++++++++++++++++++++  +++++

So exactly WHAT or HOW did these dolts help Cuba? Is this like the latino version of The Falcon and The Snow Man?

What do you think the REAL story is?

OUR SOLDIERS OVERSEAS- IT ONLY TAKES 2 SECONDS TO SEND THEM A CARD.- IT COULD BE OUR SONS.
If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to a member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! It is FREE and it only takes a second.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our soldiers over there need to know we are behind them.

This takes just 10 seconds and it's a wonderful way to say thank you. Please take the time to pass it on for others to do. We can never say enough thank you's.

Just think it could be our sons, our husbands, our fathers, our brothers, our boyfriends, our friends,
our grandchildren.-

Thanks for taking time to support our military!

Obama and the economy: supposedly the new credit card laws were supposed to help us. How is it that

the APR on at least 3 of my credit card rates has increased by 3 to 6 points ??? And I have good credit. And so have the default rates increased, which of course I would avoid at all costs. So, personally, the new credit card laws backfired for me. what about you? Did they help you in any way, or give you any advantages?

This is why CNN has lower ratings than reruns of Headline News.

People who read CNN -- supposedly "well-informed," right? -- say that Republicans are to blame 43% and Democrats 16%. What happened, did CNN viewers and readers have a massive stroke where they blacked out for the last 10 months, or are they just that ignorant of current events? This is the average CNN viewer's thoughts on Obama's presidency:

Barack Obama (mmm mmm mmm!) is a gud man. He is black and the first blak president. He gives us money from his stash. Stick it to the rich guys they suck. I smoke some weed.

CNN: making irrelevance news-worthy.

Update: November 20, 2009.
LOL at jackstraw's response. I could do much better, but then all of the liberals would start simpering about how mean it was. All of the liberals who will rush in here and proclaim jackstraw to be amazing, just like they do for Gorbachev and Jimmy Carter. Remember: failure equals success for liberals!
