Regarding marriage and relationships ... I was reading about John Wooden recently because he just turned 99. Rick Reilly, on ESPN, wrote a piece about things that were amazing and admirable about Wooden. One of those things was that he had been married to one woman his entire life (until she passed away) and still writes letters to her every year on the day of her passing. Also, she was the only woman he had ever kissed.
Now, to me, that IS admirable. And I'm sure a lot of people realize that sort of love and devotion are rare. But it's funny to me ("funny" meaning "sad") that, in the realm of relationships and marriage, people love to admire OTHER people doing those sorts of things. It's great for someone ELSE to do that, but when it comes to themselves they're like "well, gotta hit the group orgy early tonight or else we won't have time to exchange wives with the neighbors later." I always thought that if you admired something, you should try to emulate it. - Asked by istillhatescreennames, A Mr. Nice Guy, Male, 66 or older |
